At the core of this issue lies a three-part prose, generously entrusted to me by Haylee Collins, Publisher and Founder of HOWL Magazine. Here, I was granted the canvas to paint with poetic language and pen some of the edges and middles of motherhood—a delicate dance of tension and harmony.
Complementing these words are the photographic visuals that speak their own language—art in its own right captured with honesty and abstraction by Ilsa Wynne-Hoelscher (@ilsa_whk), styled meticulously (with prominence of play and improv) expressing story through primary colour by Donna Stain (@donnastain).
It is with gratitude that I find HOWL / @howl_mag as the beholder for such a rich collaboration.
Below, I offer but a small glimpse into the vast array of emotions woven within this piece. Yet, to fully immerse yourself in its entirety, I welcome you to purchase the complete documentation of this artistic exploration below, in digital magazine form.
I invite you to support Australian artists and purchase this rich publication, a publication that challenges the assumption that anything said, made or shared relating to the experience of mothering is pedestrian, uninteresting or trite. HOWL posits that this mutual experience is worth weaving into the fabric of art, culture, literature and design. You must invite this feast into your life—
Behind this paywall you can enjoy the photographic journal of a glimpse ‘Behind-the-scenes’ captured on film with accompanying words of the collaborators that unfolded this body of work and the founder of HOWL herself, Haylee Collins.
