A song that holds hands fondly with this lyrical piece, listen with the reading, or soon after.
I was tired
I was tired
and God believed me.
I opened the windows
drew the curtains
and willingly pulled in the anchors
from the middles of rivers.
I waited for the sun to go down
and soaked every single pillow in our house
with soft water and passionflower.
I placed candles and matches
in every corner of our home
so that day time was filled with day light
And night, candle light.
I took off my shoes with holy anticipation…
Penned just before a year-long break from my art as my sole monetary means, this language found me and was formed to convey my inclinations and invitation to rest—defying hurry. Through visual language, I invite you to join me and embrace stillness and its renewal, open the windows and light the candles.
If this piece has moved something within you, feel free to explore and gather it for yourself in tangible medium via my print store, and have it in a place as a visual and daily reminder to choose a rhythm that invites rest into your day.
We can be invited into rest, but it’s only by choice that we can enter it… take off your shoes…

Simply beautiful.
Beautiful, Tess! I discovered the joy of showering by candlelight every morning and it's absolutely a beautifully slow and lovely start to my day. Thank you for sharing. XO
