Dear Reader,

The most common question I get asked surrounding creativity and the out-working of it is — “what is your process?”, a question I often struggle to answer in short; to explain it feels multi-layered, seasonal, non-methodical and ever-changing. Upon recent attempt to bring my process together with some sort of language or a formed paragraph I leaned into my expanding love for noticing patterns to try and recognise where some of the obvious ones might be. Upon a pause and a closer look I was able to see one consistent undercurrent, one that moves like glue through my entire approach when it comes to creativity and my process, one I lean into as a home easy to dwell— Improvisation.

I’m currently shaping up a smaller yet fuller piece about my fond arm-link with improv as process (creatively and in basic human-ing) along with some other mentionable parts of my process and the rhythm in how I move … but before I complete the piece and mail it out to you all, I wanted to first share a lyrical piece I wrote circa 2017 alongside 5 artists (who are also good friends of mine that I have worked with over the years) that come to mind immediately when I reflect upon the mutual language that is improvisation and how I recognise it moving fluidly through their artful processes.

Be sure to have a walk about in and through their work below, follow their pages, like their art, comment on their work, tell them of your presence—what a delight to wander about in the artful worlds that have been created rhythmically with time, soul and play…
